World On Fire

Marty Duren's SBC Outpost pointed me to this video by Sarah McLachlan. It's very interesting. If you watch it, let me know your thoughts and reflections on it.

I was listening by chance to a well known radio ministry yesterday. The pastor was requesting that the audience be generous with their end of year giving. He went on to say that the radio ministry was facing a $5 million deficit. My initial thoughts were to wonder if the $5 million could be better spent on other life changing things, instead of the message that this pastor was preaching. Looking at this video, I guess that I got my answer.

Thanks David. When does self-indulgent become immoral? That’s a question our free society should ask more often.

Guilt trip!!

But there is guilt there in my heart. Which is why it hurts. I just spent $6 at Wendy's when I had food in my car that was much cheaper. I could have fed a kid for a week on the money I had saved. How cold my heart is to the needs of others. Jesus said love your neighbor as yourself and yet I clearly love myself more than those children in africa without a few grains of rice.

I tell myself I'm doing more than almost anyone around me that I am the widow giving her two mites but in reality I have so, so much that I cling on to. Oh God change this wicked heart for I cannot change it myself. I try to change surely I do but I fail and fall a thousand times. Wash me and make me anew!!

We are so wicked and yet we cannot see it for a veil lies over our hearts. God save us and those we neglect.

I thought it was excellent. And like Don, I have had enough of radio-ministers collecting $300K per year salaries and then asking me for money. It's ridiculous.

Also ridiculous--that on most of these ministers websites, the first link on the sidebar you see is how to donate. Somewhere down the line you'll see "Who is Jesus".
