"Business as Usual" for Abortion Clinics in Missouri
Another law passed to limit abortions, this time in the state of Missouri, has been blocked by a federal judge. The point of the law was to limit the number of abortions in the state by requiring doctors to "have clinical privileges at a hospital within 30 miles. It also lets parents sue people who 'intentionally cause, aid or assist' their minor daughters in getting abortions without their consent." The judge felt the language in the law was too vague:
"U.S. District Judge Nanette Laughery (search) said the civil liability language 'threatens an immediate chilling effect on all abortion counseling within Missouri and nearby states,' in part because the language is too vague to know what actions could be targeted."What I found "chilling" was the response of one of The Center for Reproductive Rights:
"I can tell you we are absolutely ecstatic," clinic administrator Michelle Collins said. "We will be providing surgeries on Monday and it will be business as usual."When one stops to consider the types of "surgeries" being performed, "business as usual" highlights the cold and cavalier attitude of those in the business of legally destroying humanity.

I've followed this pretty closely because it's literally in my own back yard -- the interstate "traffic" of St. Louis area teens to abortion clinics here in Illinois has been particularly disturbing, and I was glad to see legislation that would curb some of that (not to mention bring parental consent into the picture, finally). I'm not sure why this provision was piggybacked on the second, unless it was to strengthen both -- but the other is essentially a business-related medical liability requirement, much different in scope with abortion the only commonality. Makes me wonder if now a challenge to one part, if it holds up, could result in the entire law getting tossed. We'll wait and see.
We need to publicize how abortionists celebrate coming between frightened teens and their parents. That will surely help turn the tide of public opinion. People need to learn that you don't have to be the person contemplating an abortion to have "prochoice" policy destroy your family.
I'm adding this to my blog roundup.
Thanks to both of the "grannies" here for the comments.
