Listen up: Michael Schiavo speaks the truth.

Nick Queen has pointed out a huge discrepancy in Michael Schiavo's comments. Of course, I think most people of moderate intelligence have been able to see through his rhetoric to his motives for quite some time. Nick points out that on Larry King, Schiavo made this statement:
I won't give it up. Terri is my life. I'm going to carry out her wishes to the very end. This is what she wanted. It's not about the Schindlers, it's not about me, not about Congress, it's about Terri.
However, just a few minutes later, in response to King's asking him whether or not he understands how Terri's family feels, he states:
Yes, I do. But this is not about them, it's about Terri. And I've also said that in court. We didn't know what Terri wanted, but this is what we want...
What was that? You didn't what? Wait, for a minute there I thought you said you didn't know what Terri wanted. I thought I actually heard the truth...surely not.

Just goes to show you--keep 'em talking long enough and the truth always comes out. As Andrew McCarthy pointed out in a recent article, it is highly unlikely that Terri Schiavo, at the age of 26 and in seemingly good health, would have expressed her wishes regarding this kind of scenario:
The facts of the Schiavo case are repugnant. — Notwithstanding the Post’s insistence, it is not clear that Terri is in a persistent vegetative state (merely watching the video footage strongly suggests otherwise, and even the Post’s editorial does not endeavor to defend the manifestly inadequate medical examinations that purport to underpin the PVS diagnosis); nor is there convincing evidence that Terri, when she was stricken at 26 years of age, had even given much thought to whether she’d want to continue living in her current condition, much less expressly asserted that she would not.
Now, from Michael Schiavo's own trap, we get an admission that McCarthy's deduction is, in fact, truth. Will it matter in this case? I'd like to think so, except the determination to kill Terri Schiavo has been so strong on the part of Michael Schiavo, his well-fed attorneys (i.e. well-paid), and the radical judicial system, I'm not all that optimistic. The value of life isn't what it used to be.

Does anyone have video of that segment on line? The transcript is not as clear as you make it out to be. It was suggested that he was talking as Terri's parents. Why would he say 'we' if he meant himself? Do you think 'we' means 'me and my lawyers'?
Perhaps I'm not of moderate intelligence, or maybe I just haven't been watching this case as closely as you, but what are his motives behind his rhetoric? Just wondering if you would spell it out for me.
Thanks.

Clearly, he's not talking about or for her parents, because that is not in any way what they want. Whoever it is, it is Michael Schiavo and someone else (thus, "we"). Maybe he was talking about himself and his mistress.

The thing that IS clear is that he said he knew what Terri wanted and then admitted that he didn't. The whole time, he has been insisting that he knew what she said because she told him.

As it has been written by others, most people are missing the point: it's not an issue of whether or not she's brain-dead, as if it's somehow ok if she is...we can't starve human beings to death...period. It's a crime to starve and mis-treat animals, but it's legal to treat a human that way and say it's humane???

Oh, well, if you need more clarity than that, you'll have to hunt it down at CNN or you can see as much as Nick Queen has at NickQueen.com.

I am horrified by this whole situation and I really cannot understand why it has gotten to this point.

I also have trouble understanding why polls are saying that a majority of people, even a majority of Christians, think that pulling the feeding tube is the right thing to do.

All I can figure is that most people see Terri and fear being in that position themselves. They cannot believe that life has any meaning or purpose when a person is in a state like Terri's. Therefore, let her die because she cannot possibly want to live that way.

I kind of think like Katie. But what horrifys me is that someone can be left to die by this horrible means. Hitler was more human then the American system of death... ufff.
I hope this doesn't happen in Canada.

Tim,

Your anti-American sentiment has been been made abundantly clear on this blog through your gross generalizations. While you are certainly entitled to your own opinion and welcome to continue expressing them, it is, nevertheless, incorrect and somewhat irresponsible to label this as "the American system of death." I assure you, number one, America is not the leading nation in this type of behavior and, secondly, Canada has enough problems of its own to get arrogant towards this country...especially in regards to morality.
