Planned Parenthood: Planning for their own future?
According to LifeNews, "A new report by a consumer watchdog group confirms what many pro-life organizations have been saying for a long time: Planned Parenthood distributes condoms to teens and young adults knowing they will fail, leading to a pregnancy and allowing the abortion business to gain a new customer."
It's nearly impossible to believe that even a group like Planned Parenthood would stoop to such a low. However, the story cites as evidence a Consumer Reports study demonstrating the poor quality of the condoms. The article states, "Consumer Reports, in a study focusing on the effectiveness and quality of condoms, says Planned Parenthood offers the worst ones on the market." Full story here.

The irony is palpable, but it's quite a leap to then say that Planned Parenthood is intentionally distributing condoms designed to fail.
From Consumer Reports, "In our tests, all latex condoms passed minimum industry standards." That would include the ones distributed by PP.
Inferior brand? Probably. Designed to fail? Hardly.
perhaps you are right. However, it is a strange, practically unbelievable irony that one of the biggest providers with such a high concern for individuals saftey and health would have such a low standard for the actual well-being of those they are trying to help by providing the lowest quality condoms that would actually prevent the disease and pregnancies. Is it not, therefore, as big a leap for you to assume they are not intentionally putting out inferior products?
No, it is not. PP should certainly be very careful about the product it provides.
Here is PP's press release about the issue:http://www.plannedparenthood.org/about/pr/050106-statement-condoms.html
An exerpt: "As soon as we became aware of Consumer Reports' concerns about two other styles of our condoms, we immediately commissioned rigorous, comprehensive retesting at a world-renowned, independent testing facility. The results on all scientific measures were excellent, as were the results of the air inflation test performed by Consumer Reports itself."
I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, since I see them as wanting to help people, although others may disagree. The above press release, to me, is unsatisfactory, but that's because I'm detail oriented. I want to know what tests, where, what did they measure, and how. And why did they get results that seem to contradict those from Consumer Reports? I'm afraid that I don't subsribe to CR and so cannot see the detail on their tests either.
I just reread the beginning of your original post, "Planned Parenthood distributes condoms ... knowing they will fail." Factually accurate, since some will fail, but misleading since it implies that they wish them to fail.
Thanks for the additional info. I will check out their site as well as CR. If I find anything additional, I'll post. I will say that I tend to favor an independent testing organization like CR over some in-house, potentially "cover our tails" testing designed to help with PR.
The quote I posted is from LifeNews. I'll give you that it is their opinion (based on track record), but whether it is misleading is open to debate. I certainly think that it is grounds for investigation in order to determine once and for all what other excuse could possibly be put forth by PP for using such sub-standard materials if they are so concerned about STDs, unplanned pregancies, etc.
It would not be the first time that a big organization has padded it's own purse through some type of corruption. Being a pro-life person, I would argue that with the millions of abortions they are responsible for every year, their desire to "help people" is questionable. Their view of unborn life, in my opinion, is grounds to call into question how far they would go in order to maintain their industry. And it is very much a high profit industry. Since I don't buy into the idea of making a buck off of killing unborn babies, I don't have much of a trusting nor sympathetic ear for them. That said, I do desire to be fair, so I will wait with great interest to see what developments this story takes. If they prove beyond a doubt that they are clean (on that point, at least), I will certainly admit that I was wrong. Thanks, again.
My wife and I have been using Planned Parenthood condoms since we were dating, with 100% success. It's ridiculous to suggest that PP would deliberately distribute faulty condoms to increase business. Plenty of women need abortions as things now stand.
